Planned at $29Freelance rate card & boundaries pack
You worked out your rate, quoted it, and then the job grew: a fourth round of changes, a Friday-night "quick one", an invoice paid six weeks late. This spreadsheet keeps the rate and the rules together. It works out your hourly, day and project prices from the take-home you need, holds the boundaries that protect them, and prints both on one page you can send a client.
Rate card tab, with the free calculator's sample inputs
| Input | Sample |
|---|---|
| Take-home + costs | $80,000 + $5,000 |
| Billable time | 20 h a week, 4 weeks off → 960 h |
| Tax set-aside / buffer | 25% / 10% (you type both) |
| Result | $119 floor · $130 an hour · $974 a day |

How to use
Three steps What to fill in first, what each tab does, and what the file is not (tax or legal advice).Read · five minutes
What it won't do
It won't choose your rush fee, your revision limit or your kill fee for you, and it has no tax rates built in. Those depend on your work, your clients and where you live, so each one is a cell you fill in, with a plain note on how to decide. The rates round up to the next whole unit, like the calculator, and sit before GST, VAT or sales tax.
Good fit
- You bill by the hour, the day or the project
- Your scope creeps and you'd rather point to a page than argue
- You want rates you can explain, with the working beside them
Not a fit
- You need a contract template (this is a rate card, not a contract)
- You want someone to tell you the going rate in your field
- You need invoicing and bookkeeping (the free invoice template does that)
Questions
Can I buy it now?
Not yet. The spreadsheet is built; checkout isn't open. Leave your email and you'll get one message when it opens.
Is it the same as the free freelance pricing calculator?
The rates are. The Rate card tab takes the same inputs (take-home, weeks off, billable hours, costs, tax set-aside, buffer) and does the same arithmetic, so the same numbers give the same floor, recommended rate and day rate. The kit adds what the calculator can't keep: prices for your own job types, your working rules, and a one-page card you can send a client.
Does it tell me what to charge for rush work or a kill fee?
No. Those depend on your work, your clients and your contract, so every boundary is a blank cell you fill in with a short note on how to decide. Anything you leave blank stays off the client card.
Is this tax or legal advice?
No. The tax set-aside is a percentage you type; no tax rates are built in, so ask your accountant what to put there. The boundaries on the card are your terms written down; if a client signs a contract, the contract is what counts, so keep the two consistent.
Google Sheets or Excel?
Both. The formulas only use functions Google Sheets and Excel share. Import the .xlsx into Google Sheets or open it in Excel.
Does it work in my currency?
Yes. The arithmetic is the same in any currency. Type your amounts in your own currency and set the currency label, and the client card shows it.
How is it different from the free rate-breakdown worksheet?
The free worksheet is the rate arithmetic on paper. This pack adds project prices for your typical jobs, a scope and boundaries tab, and a printable client rate card that pulls from both.
